Screen Shot 2016-07-03 at 12.47.55 PM.pngCheong Fatt Tze Mansion

A stroll around The Blue Mansion reveals a deep mastery in the artistry and craftsmanship of the building. With its roots dating 3,000 years back to the Su Chow dynasty, the Mansion embodies a confluence of Hakka and Teochew styles along with intrinsic Southern Chinese typologies and materials. While monumentally traditional in design, the Blue Mansion also bears an eclectic architectural trait that exemplifies the 19th century era. It is at this time when the myths and magic of the Chinese Kingdom converge with the glory of the British Empire within the Malay world. The Blue Mansion also demonstrates both Cheong Fatt Tze’s deepening fascination with Western artisanship and his rising stature as a Chinese official.

The Blue mansion’s mélange of diverse influences and motifs may appear incongruous at first, but a closer look unearths an arresting architectural mosaic of Scottish cast-iron balusters contrasted with Cantonese timber lattices; English Art Nouveau stained glass with Hokkien cut and paste porcelain Chien Nien works; Chinese calligraphy against trompe l’oeil timber beams. It is in The Blue Mansion where you’ll find various cultures and aesthetics coalesce gracefully and elegantly.

Cheapest Way To Get Around in Malaysia

pexels-photo-93750-large.jpegExplore this giant city like a local. Whats better than getting advice from an experience Travel Blog who are here in Asia Countries for over 30 Years?

Depending if you are reading from many other forum or travel blogs, People around the world has a different perception on Malaysia. In this country, it is a combination of a Jam Packed City with multi nation food heaven and eco tourism with renowned once of the best place for divers in Asia Countries.

For travellers, Malaysia can be a difficult place to visit. So what is the best way to travel around in the chaotic, jam-packed city with soaring skyscrapers or city hopping? Below are Crushing Tomatoes Ultimate Guide for Getting Around Malaysia :

TAXI / PUBLIC CAB

Proton_Iswara_taxis,_Kuala_Lumpur.jpgTaxi are metered in Malaysia as required by Government Law. But you may find scenario of Taxi Drivers turning off the Meter to negotiate a fare (that is usually double or triple) the actual meter fair. This scenario generally happen in Asia Countries especially Main City Area, especially on Morning & Afternoon rush hour, sometimes also during festive season and weekends. If you encounter this, simply get out of the cab and flag the next taxi. In certain reputable Shopping Centre, they do offer a Taxi Counter where there is a fix fare. This is a normal scenario to prevent the Taxi Drivers over charging a customers.

LOCAL BUS

KingLongXMQ6121G-RapidKL.JPG

There are many local bus in both Cities and Urban Area operating in Malaysia, cost as low as MYR2.00 onwards. There are few companies who operate this busses around different town; Rapid KL & Metro Bus for example, operating on different routes. So unless you are an Adventurous Travellers, taking the right Bus to the right destination can be confusing if you are unfamiliar or have not research about the bus you need to hope on.

Important note to know, although there are many bus operating around the city’s area, you may be surprised that some places (urban area especially)  that there is not proper bus stand facilities, you may need to ask around where to wait for the bus or you maybe end up on the wrong location.

To help you travel safer and more accurate, we have compile all the latest route available which you can print or download it to your mobile here as a reference.

LIGHT RAILWAY TRANSIT

Kuala_Lumpur_Star_LRT.jpgIf you would like avoid hopping on the wrong bus to the wrong destination. Another cheapest way to travel around Kuala Lumpur is by using LRT. This railway services have few extension route to famous tourist destination like KLCC, Petronas Twin Tower, Bukit Bintang and more.

Tips To SAVE EVEN MORE, you can purchase the weekly MyRapid Smart Card for 7 Days Travel or 30 Days Travel package for unlimited LRT services. For more information about the services and route available, please visit MyRapidKL.

UBER

Uber_NY_request-screenshotUber also maybe a much easier way if you would like to travel around the cities in Malaysia without getting the unmetered taxi. Uber give you an estimation fare before you even confirm your booking. Fully utilise this “Fare Estimation” feature to brilliantly plan your travel budget. This Online Request transportation app has been getting famous here. You can simply download this app from your App Store or Google Play and start using it once your key in your Credit Card or Debit Card details.

HITCHING

pablo (13).pngHitching may be fun and economic but keep in mind hitching is never entirely safe, and we seldom recommend it to travellers who have not hitch before at least. Nevertheless, If you are really an adventurous travellers who wanted to experience the Hitching in Malaysia, we would recommend you not to do it alone, at least in pair will be great. GrabCar, maybe consider a direct competitor or not to Uber, they provide a Hitching Services at an Affordable option for daily commute.

There are many attraction in Kuala Lumpur and Other Cities in Malaysia. Depending where you are visiting, some destination can be easily reach by LRT or Busses, and other attraction you may need to take Public Cab / Uber. Some attraction even offer their Official Transportation for travellers to their destination, for example Resort World Genting Highland that is offering their Genting Express bus which is in KL Sentral Station.

Malaysia Traveller Sim Card

I have constantly receiving questions about how to have mobile phone service on the go the cheapest way in Malaysia? There is a few options for travellers to keep in touch with Family, Friends or even Social Media on the go the CHEAP WAY.

INTERNATIONAL ROAMING

Is always NOT ADVISABLE to use your own country carrier line. While this is extremely convenient for you but it can be ASTRONOMICALLY expensive. But if you are travelling for a very short period of time (2 to 3 days can be acceptable) if you prefer the convenience. Just remember to put your mobile phone into Airplane Mode, or you will be receiving an extremely high phone bill which may cost more than your vacation.

LOCAL SIM CARDS

In Malaysia there are few major carriers that offer Traveller Sim, a package which include basic call services together with Mobile Internet services. My guide below shows you each Malaysia Sim Card Pros & Cons as a reference. If you wish to skip all these reference, skip to the last part of this post for recommendation straight away.

(1) DIGI is always introducing new Mobile Data Plan at least few times a year to attract more users to subscribe to their services. Below are the plans available for now :

DIGI SMART PREPAID :

  • 5sen/30Sec Call to Top 10 Friends (you can register your team mates in same mobile network for this special rate)
  • Weekly Internet Add On : MYR7.00 | 300MB 4G LTE | Unlimited Whatsapp

(2) CELCOM claim themselves to have the widest 4G LTE coverage in Malaysia. In real facts, this carrier is actually more strong in outside cities area. So if you are planning to go outside of main cities to visit the nature, rural area, beaches and hiking, Celcom maybe a good choice.

CELCOM TRAVELER SIM

  • MYR3 is preloaded in the pack but you are recommended to reload from as low as MYR50 to enjoy longer validity period.
  • VOICE CALL : MYR0.36 per 30 Seconds
  • MOBILE DATA PLAN : MYR5 (Daily) | MYR18 (Weekly) | MYR38 (Monthly)

(3) MAXIS always brand themselves to have the fastest 4G LTE Service in Malaysia. In real facts, they provide little options for users to choose in terms of plans.

MAXIS HOTLINK SIM

  • MYR10.00 Pre loaded with MYR5 Credit & 300MB Internet (that only valid for TWO DAYS).
  • MOBILE DATA PLAN : MYR3 Per day (1GB)

(4) U MOBILE sim pack are likely more simple and very affordable compare to all the available carrier here. Below are the current package available :

  • MYR30 for 30 Days, with FREE 30 Mins Call to All Network

(5) TUNE TALK by Air Asia are less aggressive in promoting their products. Although they do offer the simplest plan overall, but the sim pack offer up to 75 days validity base on activation / reload date. An overall winner in terms of validity.

  • MYR35 for 1GB Data + MYR5 Call Time

(6) YES Malaysia is one of the first carrier to offer 4G LTE service in Malaysia. One of the fastest and smoothest network you can ever find here. The only down point is that YES coverage area are mainly in Main Cities only.

  • Pay as you use at 9 sen [Per 3MB]

TOP 8 Things I Need To Know Before Going To Malaysia

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying the Malaysian Peninsula and part of the island of Borneo. It’s known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences.

Although it is located between Thailand and Singapore, Malaysia represent a unique culture comprising of multi culture practice from three main races of Malay, Chinese, Indian. So whether if you are going for beach vacation, adventure activities or city shopping, or to dive in one of Malaysia most beautiful beaches, Malaysia always have a variety of choices for International Travellers.

Below are TOP 8 Things You Need To Know Before Going To Malaysia

(1) THE CULTURE OF MALAYSIA :

Malaysia is just like few Countries in One, combining culture practices from Malay, Chinese, Indian and other smaller ethic group that form Malaysia, a truly Asia place where you can experience different countries in one place. This is also a place that are famous for it food; from the Malay-Chinese “Nyonya” Cuisince, Spicy Indian Curries, Chinese Food Restaurant, Malay Food Street Stall, Night Markets and amazingly wide selections of International Cuisine available, travellers can never go hungry here. The Only Difficulties maybe To Choose What To Eat from this wide selection.

(2) DO MALAYSIA SPEAK MY LANGUAGE? :

Although the National Language for Malaysia will be Bahasa Malaysia, other languages are also widely spoken here; includes major languages such as Mandarin, Tamil and English as well.

Try To Learn & Speak Simple Local Language Always Make You Feel More Welcome & Travel Like A Local

Apa Khabar ~ How Are You
Khabar Baik ~ I’m Fine
Nama Saya ~ My Name is
…for example?

(3) DO I NEED A VALID VISA TO ENTER MALAYSIA? :

Visa requirement various from different countries. To make it easier for your, I have made a file uploaded here for your reference. Click this to download the PDF :   COUNTRIES THAT DO NOT REQUIRE VISA TO COME MALAYSIA

(4) ACCOMODATIONS & LODGGING :

Depending on your travel style, there are various affordable accommodations available in Malaysia.  Almost all hotels here in Malaysia can be found online, its easy for your to look for any type of accommodations that suit your travel style and budget. Ranging from Backpackers Doom, Home Stay to Resorts, all can be found and book with a click via major search engine.

(5) CHEAP FLIGHT TO AND TRAVEL AROUND MALAYSIA :

Flight Fare can be vary depending on which country you are departing from. If you are looking for a Flight Fare comparison, just visit Google Flight . While if you are interested to hopping around Major Cities in Malaysia, do consider Malaysia Low Cost Carrier Air Asia. Although their new tagline is “Now Everyone Can Fly”, AirAsia fare sometimes may not the cheapest but yet extremely competitive. What capture my attention on this airline is that you could take out what you don’t need as a service to get a much lower rate. For example : Without Check In Luggage + Without Meal On Board + No Advance Seat Selection can save you extra fund on your next destination.

(6) YES! BORNEO IS PART OF MALAYSIA TOO :

East Malaysia (Malaysia Timur), also known as Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan (Sabah, Sarawak dan Labuan) or Malaysian Borneo, is the part of Malaysia located on the island of Borneo. It consists of the Malaysian states of Sabah (well know for Mount Kinabalu; 20th Most prominent mountain in the World), Sarawak (Orang Utan Reserve Park), and not to forget, this side of Malaysia also consist of many beautiful island which are divers paradise too.

(7) POWER & ELECTRICITY :

universal-power-adapter-2-pin-to-malaysia-uk-3-pin-emlabz-store-1501-09-Emlabz_Store@13Electrical sockets (outlets) in Malaysia usually supply electricity at between 220 and 240 volts AC. If you’re plugging in an appliance that was built for 220-240 volt electrical input, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need.

(7) LEGAL MATTERS HERE! :

Drug trafficking carries a mandatory death penalty. A number of foreigners have been executed in Malaysia, some of them for possession of amazingly small quantities of heroin. Even possession of tiny amounts can bring down a lengthy jail sentence and a beating with the Cane. So Just don’t do it.

(8) HEALTH & SAFETY :

Malaysia is relatively well known for its Good Health Conditions, but taking extra precaution is always better. Located in this hot and wet climate, Dengue is always in a rise in this country. Try to avoid venues or locations which have water clog (a great breeding location for Aedes Mosquitoes) who contributed to the Dengue Fever. Other then that, Malaysia is still a healthy place to enjoy a great holiday.

Nevertheless, as a frequent travellers, I always encourage my readers to be Insurance Covered on any of your trip aboard. Regardless how advance or well safe is one country, accidents are always non detectable no matter how much you are prepared for it. This article ” Do I Really Need A Travel Insurance? ” tells you why you need one.
